Noor’s Raw Milk Potassium Smoothie

Noor’s Raw Milk Potassium Smoothie

Full of Probiotics, Potassium, and Phytonutrients

Smooth, creamy, and healthy.

Smooth, creamy, and healthy.

Did you ever try raw milk? Well if not, let me explain. Raw milk is unheated, unpasteurized, unprocessed milk. It contains live probiotics, and since it’s not pasteurized the enzymes that help you digest lactose are not killed- it’s easy to digest even for those that are lactose intolerant! I don’t drink conventional milk, so it was a definite treat to drink this raw milk, especially knowing the numerous benefits it has.

So while I was in Turkey this past summer visiting my sister, I put together this raw milk potassium smoothie. The raw milk provides live enzymes and plenty of probiotics. Tossing in the banana doesn’t only provide potassium, but also fiber to aid in digestion. Bananas are high in Vitamin B6, manganese, and surprising to some, has Vitamin C. I must mention I try to always use bananas that a ripen, with brown spots on it .Believe it or not but it will have more benefits for you. Plenty of digestive, cardiovascular, and athletic performance benefits come from bananas too. Need to say more? I didn’t think so.

The flaxseeds provide healthy fats, Vitamin B1, and omega-3 fatty acids, which we need from food sources. Flaxseeds are wonderful anti-inflammatory super-seeds.

The honey is more than just a natural sweetener; it has numerous benefits including antimicrobial and antioxidant benefits, along with the wonderful phytonutrients. We only buy unheated and unpasteurized raw honey. Check these raw honey options out.

So, what’s not good about this smoothie? It tastes amazing, makes a perfect dessert, and has mind-blowing benefits.

Noor’s Hide-Your-Greens Pain Relief Smoothie

Noor’s Hide Your Greens Pain Relief Smoothie

(Thick enough to call Ice Cream)

Topped w/ raw walnuts.

Topped w/ raw walnuts.

Move over Tylenol, here comes Holistic Noor and her smoothie.

This smoothie contains pain relief benefits, without the negative side-effects.

Did you ever imagine kale or spinach in your dessert? Well, I’m here to make it happen without making you plug your nose drinking it.

When you’re craving that sweet treat or need some energy early in the morning, this recipe is the perfect drink.

You can put less liquid and call it ice cream, or you can add a bit of liquid to make it a drinkable smoothie. That’s up to you my friend.

Now, let’s get to it.

I developed this new habit of becoming extremely sneaky with greens, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and other health foods. I throw them in drinks, desserts, and dinner entrees without others knowing. 😛

As for this smoothie, it’s full of super-foods, and therefore is high in Vitamin K, Vitamin C, potassium, dietary fiber, antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, anti-inflammatory benefits, flavonoids, muscle recovering anthocyanins, and more.

What am I talking about? Well, one of the secrets here is the Organic Tart Cherry Concentrate, considered a super-food. It’s full anti-cancer mechanisms, has anti-inflammatory benefits, cardiovascular benefits, joint pain relief, and the potent flavonoid, anthocyanins, which are known to not only reduce stress and inflammation, but also do a lot with aiding your muscles in repairing. So this smoothie/treat would be perfect after a workout. Get on it.

The banana is not only there to cover up the vegetables, it also aids in muscle recovery, aids in constipation, lightens your mood, and actually stimulates growth of bacteria (the good kind!) in your gut.

The flaxseed? Where do I begin? If I were to recommend one new habit everyday it would be to add flaxseed to your routine. 1-2 tablespoons a day is great. They are high in insoluble and soluble fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and have anti-inflammatory benefits. Make sure to buy whole flaxseeds (unless your pre-ground is cold-milled) so you don’t eat them without the benefits. Grind them in a spice grinder and top them on your smoothies, avocadoes, soups, or salads.

At this point you’re convinced enough, that you’re reading this while blending up this recipe. 😛

Enjoy every sip!

Noor’s Crust-less Clean Pumpkin Treat

I just love pumpkin, in everything. I make pumpkin cookies, cakes, breads, pies, and well this sort of treat that falls between a fudgy brownie and a pie, without a crust. Pumpkin is very high in Vitamin A, beta-carotene, and fiber. It’s very easy and best of all requires no flour, refined sugar, evaporated milk, or even a crust!

Ingredients:
16 oz 100% Organic Pure Pumpkin or this Organic Pumpkin Puree I like to use too

2 Organic/pasture-raised eggs

1 medium banana

½ cup raw walnuts, ground* and some chunks

½ cup raw almonds ground or almond meal*

1 tablespoon ground organic cinnamon

1 teaspoon baking powder (I only buy aluminum free)

1 teaspoon baking soda

*Use a food processor or a small coffee grinder to grind the nuts. If you dislike the feeling of chunky walnuts in your usual brownies or desserts, grind them completely as you would with the almonds.

Directions:

STEP 1
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Grease a spring form or 9inch pan.Ground raw walnuts and almonds using your food processor or grinder.

Noor’s “I can’t Believe it’s Blackberry Pie” and “Awesome Apple Pie”

Well what do you know, it’s pie season. While many people enjoy every bite of flaky crusted warm pies, others enjoy crumbles and cookies. The holiday season is about baking, but it doesn’t mean you are limited to making your pies and treats unhealthy. One of my siblings loves apple pie, and the store-bought one scares me, mostly because it has over 20 ingredients, half of which none of us can pronounce. I decided to make my own altering one of my old recipes.  I threw in two pie recipes, two birds in one stone. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

Whole wheat pastry pie crust:

2 cups 100% stone ground whole wheat pastry flour

3/4 cup grass-fed butter or Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

1 teaspoon Himalayan Pink Salt or Unrefined Real Salt

5-8 tablespoons ice water

Noor’s awesome fresh blackberries filling:

2 packs fresh blackberries (about 2 cups)

2-4 tablespoons raw Coconut Palm Sugar

1 tablespoon 100% stone ground whole wheat pastry flour

Noor’s awesome organic apple pie filling:

3 honey-crisp organic apples (I did NOT peel ;-))

1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

¼ cup Coconut Palm Sugar

Noor’s awesome crumble topping

1 cup 100% whole wheat pastry flour

½ cup Coconut Palm Sugar

¼-1/2 cup Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (ONLY for the apple pie.)

Directions:

STEP 1

Whole wheat pastry pie crust:
Mix the pastry flour and salt in a large bowl. Add the butter/coconut oil, scoop it into about 16 smaller pieces and use your hands to crumble. Leave coarse crumbs but not too large.
Add one tablespoon of water at a time and knead.
Shape into a disc and cover with wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Mix flour and salt. Toss in "butter spread" in small pieces.

STEP 2

Noor’s awesome crumble topping:
Mix the flour and sugar in a bowl. Divide EVENLY into two separate bowls.
Add cinnamon to one bowl and mix well.
Add in the butter/oil in small pieces and use hands to crumble into coarse crumbs (use a kneading method as well).
Set aside until you fill your pie crust with the filling.

STEP 3

Noor’s awesome PIES:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. When ready to make the pie you can either roll it out (with a rolling pin) or simply stick it in the 9 inch pie crust and use your palms to press and spread. Make an edge, the higher the better.
Place the fillings (apple or blackberry) in the pie shell, careful not to go over the edges.
Top each with the crumble topping. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until topping is browned.
Allow to cool or serve warm. Enjoy this as a treat!

I Scream For… Bananas!

Let’s take a break from brownies.

“I screamed for ice cream” as a child, but eventually learned it may not be the best for me.

Just a few months ago I converted frozen bananas into… yes, ice cream, or at least something that tastes as delectable as ice cream, satisfies your sweet tooth, has that creamy texture, and best of all, is good for you! So you get the remarkable taste and texture, and leave behind the unwanted 40+ ingredients in most brands!

I made this the first time only with bananas and my siblings thought the taste of banana was overpowering, so tossing in berries not only covers up the banana flavor, but it adds a nice color too.

Ingredients:

4 Frozen bananas peeled and pre-sliced

½ cup milk (I used almond milk or canned organic coconut milk the fat adds to the creaminess)

1 cup blackberries (or any other fruit, get creative!)

Optional toppings: raw walnuts, antioxidant and benefit full goji berries, or raw cacao nibs

Directions: (can’t get easier than this!)

STEP 1:

Place your frozen bananas and almond milk in the food processor and blend on high until creamy.

You may need to stop, turn off the machine, and scrape the sides a few times with a spatula.

Add the blackberries (or other fruit) and blend until well mixed and smooth.

Ta-da!

STEP 3:

Serve in desired bowls. Top with fresh berries, mango, or other fruit, and if you’re a nut-a-holic like me, pile on raw walnuts, pistachios, or cashews. Toppings are unlimited, there are no rules. 😉

Now tell me, what’s better… going to the store and grabbing a bucket of junk-full ice cream, or enjoying a plate of this?

Secrets Behind Noor’s 1-2-3 Black Bean Brownies

Zoom in on the good stuff. No bean in sight.

Zoom in on the good stuff. No bean in sight. 😛 Dairy, gluten, soy, refined sugar, and preservative junk free.

Noor's famous sunnah-full black bean brownies.

Noor’s famous sunnah-full black bean brownies. Topped with raw almond butter swirl.

Okay putting up a picture of delicious looking brownies does not justify the cravings. “How can these be guilt free?” one asks. Forget gluten free, these are JUNK free.

My recipe answers the question. Forget the hydrogenated oils, bleached flour, and worst of all, pounds of refined sugar found in usual brownies. Forget the list of unpronounceable ingredients in boxed brownies. Throw in black beans for a hidden kick of protein, fiber, and a fudgy texture. Your kids will never know, and neither will your husband. 😉

Personally my favorite part about these brownies is this: all you do is toss the ingredients in your food processor all at once, and pulse away! No messy bowls, no sticky whisks, no hand blender, none of that!

I secretly add in whole black seeds and cold-pressed black seed oil. Black seed has been mentioned in the sunnah of the prophet (pbuh) and is suddenly showing up in research now. The benefits of black seed for many health conditions and diseases is breathtaking. Shhh don’t tell the kids.

Now, I don’t want to keep you holding any longer, let’s get to the bottom of these.

Black Bean Brownie Ingredients:

Nutty Swirl Ingredients:

  • 5 tbsp Organic Almond Butter (you can use any nut butter or nut butter powder)
  • 1 Tbsp Organic Raw Honey or Organic Coconut Palm Sugar (sugar replacement)
  • Pinch of Celtic Sea Salt/Himalayan Pink Salt
  • Dash of Vanilla Extract (make sure it’s pure and alcohol free)

STEP 1:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place ALL “Black Bean Brownie Ingredients” in your food processor. Pulse well. Pour into desired pan (13 by 9 works perfectly well for me. The thicker you want your brownies, the smaller the pan)

STEP 2:

In a small bowl place the “ Nut Butter Swirl Ingredients” and mix well. Spoon on top of brownie batter and create a swirl with a knife. I personally prefer walnut or pecan butter.

STEP 3:

Place in oven for approximately 25-30 minutes. The deeper the pan the more time they’ll need.

Okay here you have it, my secret way of indulgence without sabotaging my health. Enjoy now, you have some baking to do.
